- Strong leader
- Enjoys working in the outdoors
We are looking for someone who is responsible and has a real passion for working with children and setting a great example. As a minimum you must have UKCC Level 2. You must be confident in leading great sessions for our groups, but also be comfortable with supporting members of staff and really getting the best out of them. Excellent communication skills and customer service is a must! This role is a residential position and therefore you will need to be comfortable with living away from home, we encourage a friendly, social atmosphere in our centers – a lot of our staff who have worked for us have made life long friends!
I am coming to the end of my 3rd year with JCA. I started with the company on my first ever season back in 2006 as an Apprentice Instructor and returned to the company in 2015 as a Senior Watersports Instructor.
Favourite part of the job
Definitely seeing confidence grow. Whether it’s a guest or instructor, seeing people come out of their shell and develop is the best part of the job. Having the opportunity to be a part of that development really gives me a huge sense of satisfaction, and for me that is what this job and industry is all about.
Best work memory
We had a group of visually and hearing impaired guests on the water one afternoon. I had sat down with my team of instructors before the session and together we came up with a plan to tailor make their experience according to their abilities. During the session I saw the instructors ability to change and adapt so well, and show the group an amazing time. That will be one session that will stay with me forever.
Why should you join JCA?
No two days are ever the same. If you enjoy a challenge this is definitely the place for you. Every group we have here presents you with new opportunities each and every day. If you enjoy helping others develop into amazing instructors, along with developing yourself into a true leader then JCA is definately somewhere you should consider.
What do you do during your time off?
When there is water around you will generally find me trying to keep my kayak the right way up on a river somewhere in North Wales or in the lakes. It has become a bit of an obsession over the past few years so I get out as often as possible. When the water dries up I will most likely be out on the mountains or praying to the rain gods to bring more water so I can go boating again.
What qualities do you need to work a season?
Enthusiasm, commitment and positivity! If you have these three qualities, you are in for an amazing season. You will make friendships that will last a lifetime.
