I have just completed my first Ski season with Skibound as a Ski Tech. I am 22 and having not gone to uni and not knowing what I wanted to do career wise I decided to apply for Skibound to do as season as I have been on several family ski trips in the past. I was over the moon when I got the job and I haven’t looked back since. My snowboarding ability has grown massively and I am down to return for my second season and I can’t wait! Bring on the winter!!
Favourite Part of the Job
I love the interaction with the guests and getting them fitted and excited for their week on the mountain ahead- this always highlighted the start of a family holiday when getting fitted for my gear! I love the fact we are out working for Skibound for 4 to 5 months so I get to go out snowboarding everyday if I can, which I have always been limited to a week when I have been previously. I love the mountain lifestyle and environment so I love that I get to work in this amazing place and working in a job that I love.
Best work memory
By best memories come from my days out the slopes and in the parks. I was out with a couple of friends and we had spent a few weeks trying to master the parks. I had started to progress, I could already do some pretty high level jumps but never been able to do any air born tricks. The first time I managed to jumped and land a 360 of a big kicker was the best feeling filled me with confidence and I have improved massively in the park since I did this! I know this isn’t the best memory but I set my self this goal at the start of my season and being able to achieve that was a great feeling. I since went on to practising in the big air backs and now I am mastering a back flip which is wicked! I am now definitely what they would call a park rat!
What do you do during your time off ?
Definitely hit the slopes. I spend a lot of time fitting ski’s and talk with the guest daily experiences, where they have been, great runs etc. which always gets me buzzing for any time off so I hit the slopes, even if I just get an hour! I love hitting the Parks and the on pitse bars with the rest of the team!
What qualities do you need to work a season?
I had a general knowledge of this role having been on many Ski trips in the past. We received all of our training in resort; how to properly fit and set up the Ski equipment so no previous experience was actually required. Definitely a passion for Skiing and the mountains is a massive bonus along, enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to learn and hard work. The season can be long and hard one but so beneficial, if you put the work in you get a lot out of it!
